When Confusion Is the Answer
There are moments in life that seem ordinary at first, only to reveal something profound when we take the time to reflect.
Recently, I was out running errands, I unexpectedly bumped into a man I had dated several months earlier. My first reaction was simple happiness. I was genuinely excited to see him and say hello.
Even though we were only a few feet apart, he didn't see me. So, I paused.
Then, I realized he was on a date.
I smiled to myself and quietly continued on my way. I had no interest in interrupting their moment.
I expected that to be the end of the story.
Instead, it became the beginning.
As I drove home, I noticed an unexpected mix of emotions. I felt disappointed that after spending a few months getting to know one another, we hadn't remained friends. More surprisingly, I felt the same sense of confusion I had experienced while we were dating.
It caught me off guard.
I'm happily dating someone now who feels like a true partner. I wasn't feeling lonely. I wasn't wishing things had worked out differently. I certainly wasn't jealous.
So why did I feel confused?
That question stayed with me for the next hour.
Rather than pushing the feeling aside, I became curious about it. I gently turned it over in my mind, asking myself what it was trying to tell me.
Then, almost as quietly as the feeling had arrived, the answer appeared.
The confusion wasn't about seeing him.
The confusion had been there all along.
The Message Was Never Confusion
While we were dating, I kept trying to make sense of what I was feeling.
On paper, there wasn't a glaring reason the relationship shouldn't work. We enjoyed spending time together. We laughed. We had interesting conversations.
But I had an unsettled feeling, something didn’t line up.
Instead of trusting that feeling, I searched for explanations.
Maybe I was overthinking.
Maybe I needed to give it more time.
Maybe I was trying to give him the benefit of the doubt.
Or maybe I held back as I waited for him to prove himself.
Looking back, I realized something beautiful.
My intuition wasn't confused.
It was communicating.
The confusion I experienced wasn't the absence of clarity.
It was clarity trying to get my attention.
My inner wisdom already knew we weren't the right match.
I simply wasn't fluent enough yet to understand its language.
Learning the Language of Intuition
One of the greatest gifts of personal growth is realizing that our intuition doesn't always arrive as a booming voice or a dramatic revelation.
Sometimes it arrives as a gentle hesitation.
A lack of peace.
A recurring question.
An uneasy feeling you can't quite explain.
Sometimes it whispers through confusion.
Our minds naturally want certainty. We love lists of pros and cons. We gather evidence. We ask friends for advice. We analyze every detail.
Meanwhile, our intuition patiently waits.
Not demanding.
Not arguing.
Simply inviting us to pay attention.
The Magic of Reflection
If I didn’t take the time to reflect after that unexpected encounter, I might have missed the lesson completely.
Instead, I walked away with something far more valuable than closure.
I walked away with greater trust in myself and a clearer understanding of how my intuition speaks to me.
Reflection has a remarkable way of transforming experiences into wisdom.
It helps us recognize patterns.
It uncovers beliefs we didn't realize we were carrying.
It reveals the answers that were quietly present all along.
This is why I believe reflection isn't a luxury.
It's a practice.
Every time we pause long enough to ask, ‘What is this experience trying to teach me?’ we become a little more connected to ourselves.
A little more confident.
A little more aligned.
An Invitation to Pause
As we move through life, it's easy to stay busy enough that we never stop long enough to hear our own inner knowing.
What if that feeling you've been trying to explain isn't something to fix?
What if it's something to understand?
What insight has been patiently waiting for your attention?
Sometimes the clarity we long for isn't found by searching harder.
Sometimes it's found by creating enough space to listen.
