My first step to healing when I crashed to my rock bottom was traditional talk therapy, or psychotherapy. I learned some much-needed skills and my therapist gave me a killer reading list.
Unfortunately, our sessions left me drained, raw and extremely emotional. I had to avoid people because I cried for hours afterwards.
Hypnotherapy is so different for me. Granted I moved past survival mode when I started, but I always feel happy and optimistic when I leave, even on my rough days.
The first concern people usually ask about is if it’s like what they see on TV or on a stage. I guarantee that my therapist has never had me doing a crazy chicken dance – at least not against my will. 😉
I think of hypnotherapy as opening the trapdoor from our conscious mind to our subconscious mind. The subconscious mind is a vast land of stored memories, emotions and the root of our triggers. It’s there we discover why we hold on to bad habits or unknowingly react to them without thinking.
My hypnotherapist describes it best: Let’s say you have zero self-control when it comes to chocolate cake. Every time you’re around it, you think this time will be different and you’ll have just one slice. But then the next thing you know, you’re sick from eating the whole cake. You dig down and remember that every time you visited your grandma, she served you a piece of her delicious homemade chocolate cake. And somewhere along the way, you connected chocolate cake to grandma’s love.
Through hypnosis, you’re able to access the subconscious mind and disconnect the bond between grandma’s love and chocolate cake. Imagine, finally turning down chocolate cake without feeling like you’re rejecting your sweet granny!
At this point, I’ve been working with a hypnotherapist for a couple of months with the goal of improving my self-confidence because I know that’s the key to everything I want.
We have tackled several challenges, like feeling unlovable and a fear to speak up for myself.
That sting of rejection had little to do with not getting the job or the guy not calling. Those minor events just tapped into a root that runs deep to a place where my subconscious mind stores unresolved childhood trauma.
And it’s not about blaming my parents. Thank goodness, because I know I fall short in so many ways as a parent. My parents, just like me, did the best they could with their experience and the tools they had. Even in the best circumstances, parents never know how their words and actions will be interpreted or remembered by a child’s mind.
So it’s actually the opposite of blame – it’s about giving our parents grace for doing their best with the resources they had. Sometimes, their resources were miniscule. It’s much more empowering to bless and release than to believe we are helpless victims.
Hypnosis gives me the tools to take my power back. And working with a hypnotherapist helps me get there faster.
Rather than solely focusing on the negative emotions, it’s about leaning into the emotions that bring abundance and bliss. The magic happens when we allow those emotions to flow and receive the amazing things life has to offer.
It’s a modality that helps me to focus on the evidence of abundance in my life and say, “Thank you, more please!”
Trying a new healing modality can be a bit intimidating not knowing the process. I got you!
Here’s the basic rundown:
· First, it starts with a consultation where the hypnotist gets to know you and your goals a bit. And they will typically explain their process.
· Then it’s time to relax and let the hypnosis do its magic.
· Wake up, review and be ready to rock your world.
Hypnotherapy gently leads you into a relaxed state where you can rewrite the stories in your subconscious, to replace them with healthier, empowering ones to reset triggers, overcome bad habits, or remove blocks.
My hypnotherapist, Andi Hess at Remix Coaching has an amazing transformational 4-week workshop called Be Limitless to rewire your brain and achieve rapid results in every area of your life — no more overwhelm, stress, or burnout.
